Re/Collect. 2019 - 2021.
When I look at my family in old pictures, I wonder- can I know them better the longer I look at them? How much can I relate? What did they think about? What do I think about them? What happened? And who gets to tell a family’s story?
These are recreated images made out of old family photo collections. I’ve layered some pictures over others, flipped and mirrored into new mixtures, and erased down into lower levels. The original pics span the 1900’s from Mexico, Texas, New Mexico, and Southern California. All the colors and tweaked imagery are directly from these scanned photos.
After these are created digitally, they are printed onto Hahnemuhle German Etching paper with museum quality pigment.
