Open Studio Fri Oct 11th!

Hey! So this coming Friday Oct 11th 6-9pm, I’m opening my studio to the public for the first time in the new location. If you are nearby, please come! Even kids, if they like art fun. I have quite a Read more…

Art Things

It’s crept up to 104° outside and I spent my first working day in my new studio, despite the heat (and no central AC there). This is just a brief post to update on my artist life over the last Read more…

What I Want & When I Want It

That title phrase makes me think of crowds of people chanting… “what do we want?!” and “when do we want it?!”. I went to an art portfolio review hosted by SFAN in May, and one of the reviewers asked me Read more…

Can I Tell You Something?

I’m sitting here this morning trying to explain the third descriptor of my project (on stories, storytelling, and storytellers for the American story) and I’m thinking… let’s start with me, the storyteller for this project. Because no matter what story Read more…

I love stories.

One of the earliest memories I have of a favorite TV show was Reading Rainbow. (Btw, I heard Lavar Burton has a podcast! I gotta check it out.) I remember the theme song and when I hear it, I have a Read more…

Go Forth on the 4th!

Happy 4th! This Fourth of July I’m sharing a project that’s been slowly growing over the past, I dunno, 15 years. Go forth! I tell myself, even if I don’t know what the end result will be. I’m calling it The Read more…

Just Post It

On Social Media & Living a Normal Life: Part 5— I’m still participating in this spectacle by posting things, but I can’t say I’m carefree about it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Oh well! I miss the artist friends I made online. Being online Read more…

The Unusual Suspects

On Social Media and Living a Normal Life: Part 4— They’re invisible and inscrutable, intangible and insidious. Of all the characters I’ve dealt with in the digital world (myself, people I know, people who know people I know, trolls, hucksters, Read more…

Me, The Usual Suspect

On Social Media & Living a Normal Life: Part 3— There’s plenty of evidence to support the idea that what’s making social media so hard for me is not social media, but me. So maybe I am neurotic, and maybe Read more…

Welcome to this blog where I store all things related to my recent art + writing work.

I started the summer wanting to merge my interest in studying U.S. history, sociopolitical structures, and how people treat each other, into an art + writing project of some sort.

I wasn’t certain what form it would take.

I ended up with a picture book story about a girl who has her own ideas about what she wants, how she wants it, and what makes her get up & go!

Summer & Fall 2019:

  • I joined the Society for Picture Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI)
  • I wrote and wrote and wrote and I finished a picture book manuscript
  • I worked my art making proclivities into an illustration style that suits me 🙂
  • I made thumbnail sketches for my first picture book
  • I have almost finished full art for a couple page spreads…

and I’m almost ready to start sending this work into the world!
